Sharpnova's review was one of the dumbest I've seen, this was great. I did get a WebGL error on my first playthrough after selecting "I've got to go" though.

zephyo responds:

Same I was so confused. Thank you and thanks for letting me know.

This was the funnest game I've played for a while

I was also one of the most poorly made

Let me explain:

The gas mask feature was utterly wasted. Never once did I need to worry about changing my mask. I get that you want to be like Metro 2033 but this isn't the way to do it

The controls were crazy clunky and stuck on me multiple times

Bunny hopping to places is faster than walking (which is a big no-no nowadays)

I didn't like the art style

Regardless, I enjoyed the game, it was very fun and refreshing, fills me with hope that newgrounds isn't quite so dead yet

SeethingSwarm responds:

Thanks! Glad you liked the game :)

The reason why the controls seemed clunky to you and why they get stuck is not because of the game itself. It's because Flash player is struggling to keep up. Flash games are surprisingly demanding on your computer, especially nowadays that many game developers like me are pushing its limits. Try not to have too many programs running at the same time while playing and having other tabs open can also greatly decrease performance. Sorry this happened to you.

The gas mask feature is a bit tricky. I've gotten similar feedback from others about the redundancy of the gas masks, as well as quite a bit of feedback from people stating that they are really struggling with having enough gas masks and that they think the gas mask filters do not last long enough. I tried to balance it as best as I could and it seems like I did a good job for most people, but I'll keep this in mind.

Sorry you didn't like the art style or the bunny hopping :P

Thanks for the feedback and the nice score! :)

The first thing I noticed about this game was how it made me stop every time it had something to say. The second thing I noticed was that it would be, for the most part, an action choose your own adventure, which don't work. I'll explain why they don't work: A CYOA is not about having two choices, one of them continuing the story and one of them killing you. It's about making choices other than that. I don't want to be punished for trying to jump, and only then figure out that I was in an anti-gravity field. There was no way I could have known that!

Look at the game "Stealing the Diamond" for an example of an "action" choose your own adventure done right. When you die, you jump right back into the action, and you aren't punished for failure because each failure allows you to see a new result.

Here's an example of a choice I'd like to make: "You see a man lying on the floor, groaning in pain. Surrounding him are fifteen imps, closing in quickly. What do you do?"

As opposed to "go left or right?" without any indication of where they lead. If I go join the evil guy, why not make a path where I go around being evil?

I didn't like the art, but it wasn't bad. It was perfectly serviceable, and the aesthetic was alright. Pixels are good occasionally, and they were a fine choice here, but I would have preferred a different style.

I'm being harsh here. I think its because I absolutely love choose your own adventures and I've been waiting my entire life for a good flash game that properly captures its theme. One with dozens of multiple branching paths of vastly different variety. This game is not that. But it's close.

While playing a game like this, I want to feel as if there are so many choices I could never possibly explore them all. With this, I felt like there were just a few optional branches to choose from. It's a good little game, but not one I especially enjoyed. With a few tweaks though it could easily become my favorite game ever. As it stands, its an interesting time waster.

Hey, thanks a lot for the review!

I get where you're coming from in most the stuff you said, and I'd love to make those fixes happen.

The problem is I am the only one working on this project. I did the game design, programming, art, animation, and sound design myself. I would love to put in LOTS more paths and choices, but as a college student who needed to get this done for school, I simply didn't have time. I more or less wanted to show what I was capable of making. If I get the resources in the future I will definitely try to make the more well rounded game you described.

Btw, since you said you like choose your own adventure games, you may want to play my other game :3 It may have more of what you're looking for ;)

This is game is hilarious! The visuals are excellent and I it was histarical when he jumped out the window. I don't know what you were thinking when you made this but we need more games like this! I thought I was going to kill myself laughing at the ending.

Emrox responds:

Thanks for the kind words! I'll be sure to make more.

Simple =/= Lazy

Okay, what? The meteor looks like it was hastily put together in a few seconds, the gameplay is bland and unenjoyable, the conept isn't the great to begin with, and there's almost no reason besides a bigger number to play this again. Yes, you only made it in a few hours, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be lenient with your score here. However...

if you had more time, i'm sure it would have been better. So, if you were to make a better version of this game, with soundfile that wasn't earrape, with a meteorite that didn't look like it was created in a few seconds, with an actual atmosphere and playability, THEN I would almost definitely enjoy it. As it stands? Not at all.

RetroArts responds:

I love this meteor. In fact, it's my favorite meteor!

Step by step time review

First impressions: Good array of songs, liking it so far, but the whole preloader taking five minutes instead of ten seconds is kind of getting to me. To be honest, the thing that made me click on this game was the "intuitive upgrades" promised. IF THERE ARE NO INTUITIVE UPGRADES EXPECT SCORE TO BE DASH FOR THAT EXACT REASON!

Starting up game: Nice song so far, title screen looks promising. Opening cut scene is completely unnecessary...

Five minutes in: Okay, LOVING the upgrade system so far, but I kind of wish it stacked, so that if you missed something you wanted you could go back when you got more power orbs and upgrade two at a time of what you wanted. I'm worrying that this will get repetitive though.

Ten minutes in: Well, wish I knew w was bomb. It IS starting to get repetitive but has an addicting charm too.

An hour in: I'd say its safe to review the entire game by now. Thank God for you changing the gameplay from chapter to chapter. If all six were like chapter 1 I might've gone insane. The upgrade system IS nice. I did enjoy the music. Graphics were retro which was a nice touch. The preloader glitch is weird and did put me off a bit, but I won't take points off for that. Overall it was a well put together game...

In fact, besides the preloader I can't think of anything wrong with it. Give me a minute or two...

...

Hmm, no, all the flaws I have are so minor they're not even worth addressing. What the hell, take my 10/10.

RatherRandomReality responds:

I saw it, you almost gave me a 9 there :)

More!

The fails were well thought out, the animation was amazing, the art was great, the game play was the most fun i've had in a while, and the whole idea never gets old. MORE! I DEMAND MORE!

PuffballsUnited responds:

MOAR!

10 stars for beating the dead horse!

Riddle school 5 was a perfect end to the series, and this new batch seems unnecessary (kind of like the new halo trilogy) but since you like making these games I'm still excited to see more of them. The series got much darker and edgier, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm interested to see where this will go.If you're willing to listen to some criticism: the first 3 games had a simple plot: get out of school. Maybe that's why it was so good, yet simple. In the fifth one, yeah you kind of pulled that plot out of nowhere, but it was a nice ending, going through all the different games, and there was some character development. But now you're running on the plot that doesn't make much sense, and trying to expand it, and its just ehhh. Also, we're in the real world, meaning we're going to be more critical because things have to make sense. If we're to believe this is the real goverment, then we need to believe that they wouldn't make it so easy for you to escape your cell. Oh well, excellent game, just keep that in mind.

JonBro responds:

The plot isn't meant to make much sense yet. I'm trying to be one of those storytellers who reveals everything later. And I'm being wary of how things now need to make more sense. I'm not saying this is the real government, though, and I still want the real world to have some nonsensical ideas based around stupidity like a convenient "guard's day off".

But yeah, I'll pay attention to that, moreso now that you've said these things. Thank you for your comments =)

Oh, and I also would like to say, I understand it might seem like I'm beating a dead horse with this series. And I very well could be. But I wouldn't have started making it if I didn't think it was worth making, and the ending I have planned for the series is well worth making five games for.

Well, that was fast

If Osama hadn't died so soon the score would've been much lower, but that fact you animated, programmed and made a pretty good game like this in only a few days is amazing, so that's mainly why you got that 10.

Kenney responds:

Few days? You mean 10 hours! Thanks for your review :3

...Space Marines

You know, you had me going there for a moment that this would be original, but you had to go and ruin it with space marines. Oh sure, it's pretty fun and has good art, but I just couldn't play through a game with space marines and get into it. Of course I won't take points off for that, but the insanely long intro and repetitiveness got to me. It was still very good and deserving of the front page, but c'mon! Space marines! Fighting different colored space marines! Over power! How did they get to that planet without fuel or energy? How did they fly for years if there was zilcho power? Why did we only see four ships with four people when there were actually dozens? What would taking over the planet accomplish if they were years away from earth? If you're going to have a large expansive plot line I need closure to this stuff, and although I didn't have the patience to beat the game, it's still a good piece of work, with nice art, and only some minor complains. And frigging space marines.

Louissi responds:

Yes you are right. We ran out of time to develop any interesting story. The goal was to create a fun arcade game. The story is only a filler.

Oh, hai there. Why are you on my profile? Geez, now I feel all uncomfortable.
